Winter Sports Programs at the Icebox Ice Rink

After School Hockey Club

After School Hockey Club is for kids of all abilities. If your child knows how to ice skate and wants to try hockey for the first time, then this is the program for them! If your child loves to play hockey but they are committed to other winter sports teams like skiing or gymnastics, this is an excellent program for them! Students MUST know how to ice skate before enrolling in this program.

At the beginning of every class, Coach Dan will lead the kids through some drills to improve stick handling, hockey strategy, and skating. Kids will scrimmage the last half of every class.

Students should wear appropriate outdoor clothing, including a warm, waterproof coat, snow pants, winter gloves or hockey gloves, and warm socks. If kids have their own hockey helmet with a cage, they are encouraged to bring it. Coach Dan has several hockey helmets for kids to borrow during this class.

This program takes place on Mondays from 3:30-5 pm at the Icebox Ice Rink. Parents should pick up at the Icebox Ice Rink.

After School Ice Skating Club- Level 1

After School Ice Skating Club- Level 1 is for kids with little to no experience ice skating. This class will cover all the basics of ice skating. Kids will work on learning to stop (most likely with a wedge), turning, and basic body positioning for ice skating.

Kids should have winter clothes to skate in- ski/snow pants, winter jacket, gloves, scarf or neck gator, and warm socks. Skate rentals are included with registration. A helmet is required- ski helmets work great and keep kids warm- a bike helmet is also acceptable.
Parents should pick up at the Icebox.

This program is held on Thursdays at the Icebox from 3:30-5pm for all sessions.

After School Ice Skating Club- Level 2

After School Ice Skating Club- Level 2 is for kids with at least some experience ice skating. This class will play games that reinforce skills such as stopping, changing direction, and improving balance on skates. Kids will work to develop more advanced ice-skating skills such as skating backwards, hockey stopping, and improving acceleration.

Kids should have winter clothes to skate in- ski/snow pants, winter jacket, gloves, scarf or neck gator, and warm socks. Skate rentals are included with registration. A helmet is required- ski helmets work great and keep kids warm- a bike helmet is also acceptable.
Parents should pick up at the Icebox.

This program is held on Wednesdays at the Icebox from 3:30-5pm for all sessions.

After School Cross Country Skiing

Join us After School and enjoy some outdoor adventures! Students will learn cross country skiing techniques through a variety of games and exercises. Children will ride the school bus to the sports complex after school and pickup will also be at the sports complex at 5pm. Snack and equipment will be provided.  Students MUST wear appropriate outdoor clothing including warm, water-proof coat, snow pants, hat, mittens or gloves, neck warmer and warm socks. This class is for 2nd – 5th graders. Registration begins 12/15/22 at 9am.

Recreational Youth Sports Leagues

Youth Basketball

Fraser Valley Rec offers a youth basketball program designed to give participants a basic understanding of the rules, skills, and strategies of basketball. This program has two divisions: 3rd & 4th Graders (coed) and 5th and 6th Graders (boys teams, girls teams). Games are played against teams from Granby and Kremmling.

Youth Volleyball

Fraser Valley Rec offers a youth volleyball program that emphasizes volleyball fundamentals, skill development, fun, and sportsmanship.  This program has two divisions: 3rd & 4th Graders (coed) and 5th and 6th Graders (Coed). Games are played against teams from Granby and Kremmling.

Registration for youth baseball will open in March 2023.

Fraser Valley Rec Youth Baseball is set to begin in May 2023.

For kids going into 2nd or 3rd grade in the fall of 2023.

-Player Pitch-
For kids going into 4th, 5th, or 6th grade in the fall of 2023.

Practice dates and times are determined by coaches. Practices will be held at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex and Aksel Nielsen Field. Home Games will be held at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex.

A jersey and hat will be provided to all registered players. Parents are responsible for providing a glove and gray baseball pants. Cleats are highly recommended.

Games will be played in June on weekdays at 6pm and Saturdays. Travel to Granby, Kremmling, and Walden may be required.

Granby Players should register with Granby Rec.

Youth Soccer

The Grand County Youth Soccer League takes place in August and September.

Registration: Soccer League Registration will open in March.

Divisions: Kindergarten-1st Grade, 2nd-3rd Grade, 4th-6th Grade

Practice days/times: Practice days and times are determined by coaches. K-1 teams typically practice once a week, all other divisions practice twice a week.

Pre-K Summer Sports

Intro to Baseball- Pre K

The Intro to Baseball program is designed for children age 3-6 to start their journey with baseball. Coaches will cover the basics of hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and running in a fun, non-competitive environment. Our program supports physical development, motor skills, focus, and following instructions. This is a great social introduction to a team environment with a coach, and provides your child the foundation for success at the next level. Intro to Baseball is held every Monday in June from 5:30-6:30pm at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex

Intro to Soccer- Pre K

The Pre-K Soccer program is designed for the beginner player. We place an emphasis on introducing players to the very basics of soccer in a high-energy, fun environment through interactive and fun games and drills. This program is held on Mondays 7/11-8/1 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex.

Little Rippers Pre-K Bike Program

The Little Rippers Bike program is designed for children age 3-6 to improve their bike skills. Coaches will cover the basics of bike on pavement, dirt, over (small) obstacles and other bike skills in a fun, non-competitive environment. Our program supports physical development, motor skills, focus, and following instructions. This is a great introduction to the lifelong sport of biking.

All bikes welcome- strider bikes, training wheels, tiny little bikes. Students must have a helmet. Knee/elbow pads are encouraged.

Little Rippers is held every Monday in August from 5:30-6:30pm at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex.

A fun introduction to tennis! Tennis NJTL- Junior Tennis - Green Dot Ball

If you have taken tennis lessons before, now it’s time to put your skills to use! Participants will play in fun games and drills and will learn to play points and matches. NJTL develops the character of young people by emphasizing the ideals and life of co-founder Arthur Ashe. The NJTL network shares a commitment to positive youth development and the importance of tennis as a lifetime sport. Participants will compete in the Arthur Ashe Essay Contest and will also do some fun educational projects when the weather is unsuitable to play tennis.

Tennis - Teen

Golf Youth
A class designed for boys and girls to develop the basic skills to become proficient golfers. We will focus on developing fundamental movement skills and golf-specific training techniques. Junior Golf

Junior Golf – Intro to Course Play
This class is designed for the young golfer ready to venture onto the course. We will introduce the full-swing, short-game, putting, rules, and etiquette and work towards preparing for the nine-hole play. Players MUST be ready to carry their own golf bag for nine holes, no carts! They must have had prior golf lessons. Golfers may bring their own equipment, although clubs will be supplied to those golfers who do not own their own equipment. The golfers ready to play the course will have the opportunity to split into different ability groups and apply their skills on the course. Lunch will be included and available BEFORE class for students. Lunchtime is from 11:30-12:00. Students are encouraged to grab their hot dogs and go down to the driving range and meet the instructors on the range. Transportation is NOT provided.

Youth Paintball Clinic
Come and play at our 45,000 square feet paintball field with natural bunkers and obstacles. Our games are high adrenaline, fast games. The clinic is designed for players wanting to learn more about the sport! Players will work together for strategy play and learn about the technical parts of the paintball guns.
